Home Science encompasses of both art as well as
science. Home science essentially deals with
different aspects of housekeeping. Home science
is not  just restricted to nutrition or food, but
it also covers subjects such as dietetics,
economics, hygiene, clothing, sociology,
community living, child development and family
relations. Students, who are willing to pursue
his/her career in this field, must have a logical
mind along with realistic approach and a balanced
attitude.

For admission in a Under Graduate, the candidate
must have passed the higher secondary school
certificate (102) examination with science
subjects such as biology, maths and chemistry.
For Post Graduate are holding a bachelor's degree
with science subjects such as biology, maths and
chemistry. The duration for this course is 2
years.

A home science student with determination and
skill can enter various industries like fashion
designing, food industry, textile business. There
are a large number of opportunities available in
hotels and food industry where they can start
their career.  The opportunities for employment
are growing, you can take up jobs in the
production industry, tourism, service industry or
healthcare as well. In addition, you can work as
a nutrition consultant or a research analyst.
Most opportunities lie in the non-governmental
organizations for graduates.

The starting salary of Rs 1,00,000 1,20,000
per annum as a trainee and after having
experience in a particular area say Nutrition
Dietetics can get a salary which can be more than
Rs 2,00,000 per annum.
