Reflections in The Heat

• It seems such a simple idea that you wonder why
  nobody thought about it before.
• A radiator that is also a mirror not only looks
  good but it helps save space and that is
  increasingly important particularly in inner
  cities where habitable room is at a premium.
• Strategically placed, a mirror cum radiator can
  make any room look bigger and this also works at
  the end of a narrow corridor such as the hallway
  by the front door.

• Not so long ago some designers started to look at
  livening up the otherwise dreary radiator and
  started producing some exotic shapes in a variety
  of metal finishes. More recently added to the
  selection are mirrored radiators and even
  graphite finishes.
• This all means that when refurbishing a property
  its necessary to take a good look at the old
  central heating system. Boilers of a certain age
  are far less efficient compared with a new combi
  one that re-uses the heat from the exhaust and
  doesnt just chuck hot air out the window.

• New boilers are small and can fit in a tiny
  cupboard unlike old ones with water tanks that
  used to take up a walk-in size cupboard. Again,
  this is a way to save vital space and in older
  properties that cupboard was designed just for
  such a purpose.
• So with the boiler and tank out of the way it is
  often possible to knock through this area and
  find the sitting room or bedroom can be increased
  in size.
• This doesnt sound much recovered room but try
  telling that to someone paying enormous amounts
  in rent on a one bedroom apartment in an old
  property in London.

• If youre like most people you will hardly have
  looked twice at that panel radiator in your
  bedroom, sitting room or at work. But when you
  look at the huge diversity of modern radiators
  now available you might just remind yourself that
  your old and noisy ones need replacing.
• Its always a good idea to replace old radiators
  if a new boiler is being fitted. The whole system
  will then run at an optimum rate and long term
  will save money in fuel costs.

• Apart from radiators that also act as mirrors
  there are any number of designs that look almost
  like pieces of modern art. When these are fitted
  to a wall its therefore to far greater effect if
  the pipes are hidden.
• Its also essential to choose carefully all the
  extra fittings such as thermostats and other
  controls so that they look best with the
  particular radiator. Chrome or brass are the two
  most popular and these look good with most
  radiator designs.

• One acquaintance is so enamoured with mirrored
  radiators that he has fitted one in each of his
  three bedrooms as well as the bathroom. This may
  seem over the top but you also might get carried
  away when you view these attractive radiators.
