ENGL 135 Week 2 Book Review of Omnivores Dilemma
Book Review Our assignment is a book review, and
you will choose one part of The Omnivores
Dilemmato review. Its important to discuss
common expectations in your review, and whether
the chapters in the part of the book meet or do
not meet these expectations. In your review, use
the common expectations that your classmates have
posted in the second threaded discussion for this
week. The Book Review ofThe Omnivores
Dilemmaone of three partsis due in the Dropbox
by the end of Week 2 and is worth 100 points. It
should be 1-2 pages.
Position Paper Choose your topic for the
position paper carefully, as it will be expanded
into the Research Paper later in this course. The
topic should come from one of the issues explored
in The Omnivores Dilemma. A theme of this bookis
that conventional wisdom about societal issues
and challenges is often incorrect. Dont be
afraid to take an unconventional stance on an
issue.

Homework The annotated bibliography is a very
useful research tool in that it summarizes the
information found in each of your research paper
sources, and relates how the source will connect
to ideas in your paper. Be sure to review the
section Developing an Annotated Bibliography
(pp. 472-474) of our textbook before writing your
bibliography. In Doc Sharing, youll also find
the document format for the annotated
bibliography. You may find that other sources
will be added to your list, but at this point in
your research process, you should have at least
five sources to include in your bibliography.
Homework The Research Paper will be a longer
version of your position paper, just expanded
with outside sources. The research proposal and
outline let the reader know your topic, research
question, and how you plan to expand your
position paper. The research outline provides a
road map of your ideas for the research paper,
including your thesis, organization, and major
ideas. The research proposal and outline
assignment, due at end of week 4 in the Dropbox,
is worth 60 points and should be 1-2 pages.

Homework Your final research paper should be
8-10 pages, not including an APA cover page and
References page. It is worth 150 points and is
due the Thursday of Week 8 to the Dropbox.
Course Project Use the first and second drafts
of your research paper to complete your final
research paper. You have already received
feedback on the first draft of your paper.
Retrieve your first draft of the research paper
from the Dropbox use the feedback you received
to make any corrections, edit carefully, and make
any improvements necessary for you to earn a top
grade.
Homework Your teacher will assign you to a peer
review team. Complete the second draft of your
paper and post it to your team Discussion board
for peer review as directed. An additional 3-4
pages should be added to your draft from last
week. You will peer review two classmates second
drafts, and your peer reviews are due at the end
of the week to the same thread.
