Title: Data Backup and Disaster Recovery - The Basic Difference

1
Data Backup and Disaster Recovery - The Basic
Difference
  • Disaster recovery and Data backup might look same
to a layman but they are very different concepts,
disaster recovery is not possible without backup
in the first place. Backup data is historically
collected data making redundant copies of data.
Disaster recovery on the other hand, is all about
how backups and other fault-tolerant mechanisms
are put to work after a disaster occurs. Disaster
recovery is having the tested withheld data to
get systems restored and running as quickly as
possible, as well as the associated data.
  • The need for Data recovery and backup in a data
    center
  • Data recovery is the process of restoring data
that has been lost by mistake and important files
are deleted , File system format or Damage and
files corrupted or made inaccessible for any
reason. That could be anything and there are many
reasons to data loss ranging from a disk crash on
a users device to a data centre crushed by a
meteorite. When such a failure happens, it is not
just data that needs restoring, but the full
working environment in other words, disaster
    recovery.

  • Robust methods employed in a data center for Data
    Recovery and Backup
  • Data backup simply means a copy of your data is
replicated to another device or location. When
your system data gets deleted and the system is
formatted either by mistake or data has not been
saved before formatting. Generally your file size
in clusters is commonly 32 KB, but it varies with
drive size. But if your data is large and files
are larger you need data recovery software.
  • Recovery data is divided into two categories
  • Data required keeping current values.2) Data to
make the restoration of previous values possible.
  • Possible Levels of Recovery
  • Data recovery to the correct state. Recovery
to a check pointed correct state. Recovery to a
possible previous state. Recovery to a valid
state. Recovery to a consistent state. Crash
    resistance (prevention).
