• Step 1 The Survey
• The first thing that you will need to do is to
  arrange to have the property surveyed to make
  sure that it is appropriate for solar panels.
  Often, the solar panel companies have a team of
  surveyors that they use to carry out these
  surveys. Before you accept their service, you
  need to establish if theyre qualified to survey
  the property. This type of work needs to be done
  by a chartered surveyor, and in particular, a
  building surveyor. They have the expertise to
  correctly assess the property.

• The survey enables them to make a detailed plan
  about how to proceed with the installation. It
  will also inform them of anything to watch out
  for, such as weak parts of the roof or unusual
  mounting requirements. The survey will also tell
  them if the roof is suitable, and if it isnt,
  they will not install the panels.

• Step 2 The Panels
• The next step is to decide how many solar panels
  you want to install. This depends on a number of

• How much money you can afford
• How much space you have
• The direction of the roof (you cant have solar
  panels on a south-facing roof because they wont
  produce enough electricity)
• Step 3 The Installation
• Installation companies tend to do the
  installation in a series of stages. The first
  thing that they will do is come to the property
  and clear a space around the front of the roof
  upon which they are going to install the panels.
  Once they have the space, they will construct the
  scaffolding in front of the roof. Next, they set
  out the array on the roof at this stage you
  might be asked to double check the position, and
  if it all goes to plan, they will install the
  panels. The panels are mounted into the rafters,
  so they will be removing a few tiles.

• An installation can take as little as a day to
  complete, including scaffolding and clearing away
  the space, as well as the installation itself. It
  rarely lasts more than two days. The latter would
  only happen with a particularly large system, or
  if there were an unforeseen problem.
