Available Psoriasis Treatments
2
  • Psoriasis is a chronic condition of the skin. Any
approach to treating this condition should be
taken into account for the long term. Every
treatment regimen is individualized based on sex,
    age, personal motivation, occupation, available
resources and other health conditions. The
severity of the disease is defined not only by
the extent and number of plaques but also by the
acceptance and perception of the patient. It is
important to develop a treatment for psoriasis
with the specific expectation of the patient in
mind instead of concentrating just on the extent
of the area of the body involved.

  • A lot of treatments are available for psoriasis.
    But an effective therapeutic regimen's
construction does not have to be complicated.
  • Topical Agents
  • The first course of action is to use medications
that can be applied directly on the affected
area. These medications include vitamin D-3
    derivatives, corticosteroids, coal tar, retinoids
and anthralin. No single topical medication is
    best for all psoriasis patients.

  • Phototherapy or Light Therapy
  • The sun's UV light slows the skin cell production
and reduces inflammation. Sunlight is helpful in
reducing the symptoms of psoriasis in a lot of
individuals. In case of widespread psoriasis that
cannot be treated with topical medications, light
therapy can be an effective option.

  • Systematic Agents
  • This type of psoriasis treatment involves the
consumption of drags. In general, such drugs
started only following the failure of both
topical and light therapy. Systematic agents like
retinoids are likely to be needed from the start
of treatment for generalized pustular psoriasis.
Also an effective treatment for eczema, topical
treatment is used for chronic and milder forms of
    pustularpsoriaisis.
