Physical
  • General Facts and Statistics
  • Figures are also predicting that by 2050 60 of
men and 50 of women will be obese if no action
is taken. Obesity is responsible for 9,000 deaths
per year in this country, and is a major
    contributory factor to heart disease.
  • Weight loss is very often targeted in this
country, and you probably understand the
implications. However, did you know, a study in
2009 claimed that 2 million people in the UK were
malnourished and a further 3 million were at risk
  • Men are more likely than women to be overweight
(or obese), 67 per cent compared with 58 per
cent. This compares with 58 per cent of men and
49 per cent of women ten years ago.
  • Eating Disorders
  • People with eating disorders often struggle with
body image and disrupts their normal activities
with unusual eating habits to alter their
    appearance.
  • There are 3 main eating disorders Anorexia
Nervosa, fear of gaining weight or becoming fat,
Bulimia Nervosa, the act of binge eating then
purging or vomiting, and Binge Eating Disorder,
eating until uncomfortably full in one sitting.
  • Eating disorders can be genetic or caused by
psychological issues like coping skills, control
issues, trauma, family trouble, or social issues.
Each type of eating disorder has many possible
    causes.
  • Obesity
  • There has been a marked increase in obesity rates
over the past eight years in 1993 13 of men
and 16 of women were obese in 2011 this rose
to 24 for men and 26 for women.
  • The main causes of obesity are there is easy
access to cheap, high-energy food that is often
    aggressively marketed to people. Peoples
lifestyles and jobs are much less active than in
the past and many leisure activities such as
watching television, playing video games and
browsing the internet are usually done sitting
down. People drive or use public transport and
walk a lot less than they used to.
