Chapter 1 What are Fibroids
  • Fibroids are non-cancerous tumors that grow from
the muscle layers of the uterus. They are also
known as uterine fibroids, myomas or fibromyomas.
Fibroids are growths of smooth muscle and fibrous
tissue. Fibroids can vary in size, from that of a
bean to as large as a melon.
  • Fibroids affect at least 20 of all women at some
time during their life. Women aged between 30 and
50 are the most likely to develop fibroids.
Overweight and obese women are at significantly
higher risk of developing fibroids, compared to
    women of normal weight.
  • Malignant growth on the smooth muscles inside the
womb can develop, called leiomyosarcoma of the
womb. However, this is extremely rare.

Chapter 2 What causes Fibroids
  • Doctors dont know the cause of uterine fibroids,
but research and experience point to the
    following factors
  • Genetic changes. Many fibroids contain changes in
genes that differ from those in normal uterine
muscle cells. Theres also some evidence that
fibroids run in families and that identical twins
are more likely to both have fibroids than
    non-identical twins.
  • Hormones. Estrogen and progesterone, two hormones
that stimulate development of the uterine lining
during each menstrual cycle in preparation for
pregnancy, appear to promote the growth of
fibroids. Fibroids contain more estrogen and
progesterone receptors than normal uterine muscle
cells do. Fibroids tend to shrink after menopause
due to a decrease in hormone production.
  • Other growth factors. Substances that help the
body maintain tissues, such as insulin-like
growth factor, may affect fibroid growth.

Chapter 3 How to cure Fibroids
  • Uterine fibroids treatment medicine
  • Western medicine has a variety of uterine
fibroids treatment. Treatment options range from
observation to less invasive surgeries that can
    preserve fertility to hysterectomies. Iron
supplements may be given to address anemia NSAIDs
    may be given for pain.
  • Natural remedies for fibroids
  • In herbalism fibroids are seen as a symptom, not
a disease. So, rather than treating the symptom,
in this case fibroids, the goal is to address the
underlying cause and tissue imbalance so that
fibroids can resolve on their own.

  • From a western herbalists perspective fibroids
can be caused by pelvic stagnation and poor liver
function. Women with uterine fibroids may have
estrogen dominance, which can be caused by
environmental toxicities as well as endocrine
disruption and poor liver function. Insulin
resistance may also play a role.
  • Uterine fibroids can be caused by blood
stagnation, phlegm stagnation and liver Qi
    stagnation.
  • Uterine fibroids are caused by variety of
underlying imbalances. One of the treatments
which are known to be successful is developed by
