What is breast reduction surgery?
Breast reduction surgery is also called reduction
mammaplasty. This is a plastic surgery procedure
to reduce size of breasts. Breast reduction
surgery removes excess fat, glandular tissue and
skin around breasts to give proportionate shape
to your body and to prevent discomfort associated
with overly large breasts. Oversized breasts may
become source of physical and mental trauma for
women.

Initial process of breast reduction surgery
First and foremost you need to look for a board
certified and well trained surgeon. The surgeon
will first of all discuss the medical history of

to quit smoking, if you are a smoker. If you are

Procedure and recovery time
Surgery is done under general or intravenous
anesthesia. Incision is made in circular, keyhole
pattern or anchor shape pattern. Underlying

complete incisions are sutured. Dressing or
bandage is put. You may be asked to wear a
support bra to reduce the swelling. Recovery time
is generally one to two weeks but you may not be
able to resume physical activity for a month. You
may feel little pain after the surgery, which is
normal. You may feel tired and sometimes
depressed too. If any infection like fever or any
unusual discharge is felt, immediately consult
