Frank Cockerill Clinical Microbiology
Frank Cockerill is the past chair of the
Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology
at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is
Board Certified in Internal Medicine and
Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology,
and practiced Internal Medicine and Infectious
Diseases for over a decade before shifting his
focus to Clinical Microbiology. His research
interests range from basic discovery to applied
science.

Frank Cockerill has held many leadership roles at
the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he
has worked for many years. He has led a highly
successful research and development career in
both basic science and translation science, with
a focus on agents of bioterrorism and antibiotic
resistance. He is widely published in
peer-reviewed medical literature, with author or
co-author credits on more than 150 articles.

medical literature, many of which relate to
diagnostic testing for infectious diseases. His
work has led to numerous patents, both in the
United States and abroad

Frank Cockerill The BD Award
Frank Cockerill has been the recipient of
numerous awards during his long and distinguished
career in medicine. He has received the BD Award
for Research in Clinical Microbiology, the
highest honor that a clinical microbiologist can
receive in the United States, and the Laboratory
Public Service National Leadership Award, which
recognizes significant contributions to the
healthcare of the American Public. He has also
received a Fellowship in the American Academy of
Microbiology.
