Dr. Rainer Gruessner Surgery Chairman
Dr. Rainer Gruessner is the former Chairman of
the Department of Surgery at the University of
Arizona. He is a Professor of Surgery and
Immunology at the University of Arizonas College
of Medicine. He held the chair position from July
of 2007 until recently and is largely responsible
for implementing new strategies and rebuilding
the entire department of surgery.

Dr. Rainer Gruessner is the former Director of
Hepatopancreaticobiliary Surgery within the
College of Medicine at the University of Arizona.
He is also the former Chairman of the Department
of Surgery at the university as well and is
largely credited with rebuilding the entire
department. Dr. Rainer Gruessner recruited over
60 new staff members while expanding the
department to encompass three new divisions and
various new clinical programs.

Dr. Rainer Gruessner is the former Chairman of
the Department of Surgery, Chief of the Division
of Transplantation and Director of
Hepatopancreaticobiliary Surgery and currently a
Professor of Surgery and Immunology at the
University of Arizona. Dr. Rainer Gruessner is a
highly accomplished surgeon, physician, and
scientist with numerous awards for his work in
the medical field.

Dr Rainer Gruessner Surgical Leadership Positions
Dr Rainer Gruessner has been in surgical
leadership positions for sixteen years, in either
Chair or Vice-Chair positions. Gruessner was
appointed Chair of the Department of Surgery at
the University of Arizonas College of Medicine
in 2007. He is also a Professor of Surgery and
Immunology
