5 tips to maintain the India Limestone slabs
Floor tiles made of Indian limestone are one of
the most attractive naturally occurring stones
used in residential as well as commercial units.
Limestone is basically calcium carbonate
containing calcite and aragonite deposits. On all
the sedimentary rocks found on Earth, as much as
20 percent of it is limestone. Limestone is a
major family in the category of sedimentary rocks
formed by the pressure of ocean waves and
underlying marine bed currents.
2
They also consist of large quantities of organic
matter and fossilized items from the pre-historic
era like algae, bacteria, corals and other
micro-organisms. They mostly occur in the form of
honed, semi-polished as well as highly polished
stone slabs. Owing to easy machinability and
floor gradient rating, limestone can feature
multiple color hues and exquisite patterns. Rated
as the most hygienic stone slab, Indian limestone
is fully anti-bacterial item, best suited for use
in kitchen, sinks and bathroom utilities.

Indian limestone
When it comes to making a pavement or a brick
path, limestone stands the test of time. Despite
their susceptibility to grimes, grease, dirt and
dust, limestone can resist water seepage, stains
of oil and acid attacks with relative assurance.
We give you some helpful tips related to the
cleaning maintenance of floors made of
limestone slab. These tips would help you keep
the Indian limestone slabs floor shiny and
attractive, even years after their purchase.
4
1 Manage the old flooring with renewed sealing
In case you have decided to go with the older
flooring, opt for a reliable floor protective
sealing. Limestone slab is durable as long as it
has a good protection coming from the sealing.
Ensure that the slab is coated with sealing
completely and not left out at the edges. Any
ridge in the sealing can give away the beauty and
let the water slip into the floor.
5
2 Wipe the floor with Soft cloth only
Use soft linen cloth to wipe the floor. Use
neutral solution like water. Mild acid can be
used, but continuous application of mildly acidic
solvents can wreck havoc on the limestone and
create fractures on the surface.
Some solvents can even create internal cracks
through which water can seep in. Limestone is
very susceptible to water stagnation. It might
discolor the surface permanently and create ugly
looking stains all over which only grow bigger
with time.

3 Take precautions while serving fruit juices and
alcohol
Grapefruit, lemon juice and vinegar are known
enemies of limestone surfaces. Using of mats
under cups, glasses and mugs avoid the formation
of juice rings on the limestone floor. Wipe with
lukewarm water to remove the stain. Leaving them
there will make them permanent and would tarnish
the lake forever.
8
4 Distinguish between oil-based stain from
water-based ones
Oil-based stains are more notorious than the
water-based ones. You might need to use
specialized floor cleaners to remove stains of
oil from the surface. If the stain is left for a
while, it might become permanent. The only way to
remove such stains would be to refurnish the
whole surface all over again.

5 Prevention is better than cure
Just like in Medicine, prevention here is a
better option. Proper maintenance and regular
cleaning will keep the limestone slab shining for
many years to come.
