WHAT IS CLASH MAGAZINE?
Launched in 2004, Clash Magazine is a modern
music magazine that also incorporates fashion and
film. The magazine generally hosts interviews and
cover shoots with some of the biggest mainstream
and upcoming stars on the music scene as its main
selling point. They also include articles about
fashion and reviews about the latest releases in
film.

HOUSE STYLE
Clash Magazine generally has an unorthodox layout
but is often praised for its artistic yet
innovative presentation defying the typical
conventions of a music magazine. What makes the
front cover of Clash Magazine so effective and
appealing to the customer is the powerful
photography, which translates a strong enough
message about the issue without having to include
the general conventions of a magazine. But in
terms of conventions, the front cover of the
magazine always includes a menu strip to give the
customer an idea of the content inside the
magazine. As well as a selling line, for example,
The Fashion Issue (left), which may be
appealing to readers who have a key interest in
fashion. They also use distinct headlines which
are usually the name of the cover star or a bold
word, for example Bombshell (left), with a
supporting caption underneath.

HOUSE STYLE
The magazine uses a lot of negative space and
unusual layout styles within its articles. They
also tend to use regular images paired with
artistic graphic design. This makes it looks more
attractive to the reader because if there was
just a lot of plain text then the reader may be
less interested in reading it. I think that is
what makes Clash magazine so unique, individual
and appealing to its niche hipster audience.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Clash Magazines press pack states that 37 of
their readers are aged between 21 and 25 years
old, another 34 are aged between 26 and 30 years
old. Clashs press pack also reveals that 52 of
their readership is male, suggesting that their
target audience are males aged between 21 and 30.
However, due to the very small difference between
the male and female readers, it can be concluded
that the magazine is neutral aimed towards both
genders. Also, Clash Magazines target audience
is displayed as young people who are keen users
of modern technology with a key interest in
music. The magazines target audience are largely
located in the UK, with 43 of readers located in
London and Eastern England.
