1F. Chris Garcia Awarded in New Mexico
F. Chris Garcia, former president and provost of
UNM, was acknowledged for his outstanding public
service in the state of New Mexico while serving
as the president of UNM. He was awarded both the
New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Award and
the University of New Mexico, Mortar Board, LOBO
Award in 2003. The LOBO award is given to alumni
who are recognized for the betterment of the
university or exceptional career achievements.
2F. Chris Garcia Honored in Age
F. Chris Garcia was inducted into the Silver
Horizons Albuquerque Hall of Fame in 2009.
Silver Horizons, formerly the Senior Foundation,
honors seniors who are over 65 years of age and
who have dedicated a life to community service.
Inductees of the Senior Hall of Fame are seen as
exemplifying the wisdom of elders, thought to be
a vital component for every successful society
throughout history.
3F. Chris Garcia Survey Research Pioneer
F. Chris Garcia founded Zia Research Associates,
Inc. back in 1973 with two other professors. Zia
Research Associates was the first full-service
opinion survey research (public opinion polling)
organization in the state of New Mexico. For the
next twenty-five years Garcia also as an
election and political analyst for local media
including TV stations, newspapers, radio
stations, and several national and international
periodicals.
4F. Chris Garcia The Early Years
F. Chris Garcia graduated high school in 1957
from Albuquerque Valley High School, New Mexico.
He was incredibly active during his time at
Albuquerque Valley High participating in
extra-curricular activities such as band (in
which he was captain), student government, drama
club, National Honors Society, and receiving the
Warren A. Smart citizenship award and scholarship.
