Investigating Photography

• I looked at a series of websites to find
  appropriate professional photography that I could
  use in my magazine. This is because
• I need to have lots of options for what to use in
  the magazine.
• I need to have plenty of variety that helps to
  represent my music scene accurately.

• I like this shot of Bing Crosby because it uses a
  shallow depth of field to highlight the subject.
  It is a medium close up and so gives lots of
  detail.
• It could be used for a front cover or inside
  page.
• It would influence the design of the page by
  allowing a simple colour scheme to be adopted of
  grey, black and white.
• The shot has been taken in a studio with care
  taken around depth of field and costume.

• I like this shot because it uses contrast between
  the land and sky.
• It could be used an inside double spread.
• It would influence the design of the page by
  introducing contrast and it would allow space for
  text over the image.
• It might have been created by using a fast
  exposure time and applying filters.

• I like this one because the colours are simple
  but effective and the image has a washed out
  look.
• It could be used for a feature article single
  page or double page spread
• It would influence the design of the page by
  keeping colour to a limited few.
• It might have been created by applying a filter
  to an image taken on location with good lighting.

• I like this famous image by Horst P. Horst
  because it, to 2014 eyes, looks vintage and has
  very few but effective colours that stand out
  from the background. The subject is lit from the
  front casting interesting shadows
• It could be used for a front cover as it is a
  medium close up or perhaps a contents page.
• It would influence the design of the page by
  adding a colourful vintage twist and introducing
  glamour to the page.
• It might have been created by setting up a
  subject in a studio with specific lighting and
  props

  to illuminate the subject. The setting is also
  appropriate and interesting

  space for plenty of text or likewise a contents
  page.

  past to give it a vintage look that works nicely
  with the black and white

• It would influence the design of the page by
  giving a black and white vintage theme-Amy
  Winehouse is known for her love of classic Jazz
  and RB

• It might have been created by taking a photo in a
  controlled studio environment with appropriate
  costume and props with good lighting to her face.

• I like this one because it uses a vintage 60s/70s
  theme and has muted colour

• It could be used for an interview page with the
  band

• It would influence the design of the page by
  providing the dominant pale colours to reflect in
  the page design from the photo.

• It might have been created by finding an
  appropriate location and arranged the band using
  semiotics and giving them appropriate facial
  expressions to the mood of the photograph.

• I like this one because it uses space effectively
  to frame Johnny Marr. He is also wearing colours
  that fit nicely with the filter

• It could be used for a contents or double page
  spread.

• It would influence the design of the page by
  allowing plenty of room for text and adding a
  Street theme

• It might have been created by finding an
  appropriate location and filtering the image-it
  could have also been taken on a traditional black
  and white camera.
