1Investigating Professional Photography
- Selecting and Constructing photography for the
music magazine
2Investigating Photography
- I looked at a series of websites to find
appropriate professional photography that I could
use in my magazine. This is because - I need to have lots of options for what to use in
the magazine. - I need to have plenty of variety that helps to
represent my music scene accurately.
3- I like this one because the dark colours give of
a mysterious and alien atmosphere, which could be
used to re-enforce the image of a band. This
is further suggested by the lack of direct mode
of address - It could be used for an article featuring the
band. - It would influence the design of the page by
making it a double spread with the image on one
side and text on the other. - It might have been created by a professional
photo shoot.

4- I like this one because it is a monochrome image,
allowing for text to be easily placed on it. The
direct mode of address engages the audience
allowing for potential buyers. - It could be used for a front cover as a large
image of a well known band would attract a wide
audience - It would influence the design of the page by
having text appear on the left and right sides - It might have been created by a professional
photographer, and edited in photoshop

5- I like this one because the indirect mode of
address demonstrates how the guitarist is engaged
in his work. This could re-enforce a professional
and serious music magazine. - It could be used for an image in an article
featuring the band as it shows one of the members
fully engaged in playing guitar - It would influence the design of the page by
being placed in the - It might have been created by a professional
photographer and edited in something akin to

6- I like this one because the band is featured in
it, allowing for intertextuality and direct mode
of address. The background while slightly moody,
allows for text to be placed easily without being
difficult to read. - It could be used for a front cover
- It would influence the design of the page by
having the text appear on the top and left hand
side of the cover. - It might have been created by a professional
photgrapher.

7- It would influence the design of the page by
creating a stylised and moody atmosphere, fitting
for a indie rock magazine
Uses minimalist photography to create a
mysterious and distant feel. It looks very
stylised and could be used for numerous things.
An album cover or contents page as there is a lot
of white space that could be filled with text
- It might have been created by Photoshop via
filtering images and creating silhouettes.
Changing the contrast on the brightest might have
given it a monochrome effect

8- I like this one because the image gives a casual
impression of the band and it could be used for a
variety of purposes
- It could be used for an image on the front cover
or in an article. The dark edges mean that text
can be placed around the image without being
difficult to read.
- It would influence the design of the page by
having text be placed around the image.
- It might have been created using lighting
techniques to have the band members stand out
against the dark background.

9- It could be used for a front cover as it is
spacious and the monochrome design means that any
colour would contrast against it, allowing for
the text to stand out.
- It would influence the design of the page by
having the headers appear on the left and right
sides and the masthead above
The monochrome design and sketchy looking
background allow for a stylised image.
- It might have been created by hand, or by using a
painting program such as Adobe Illustrator.

having the article text placed at the top.
An image on a double paged spread. The image is
wide enough to cover to pages and the picture
would suit an article featuring the band
The image connotes the feel of the band. The
dark colours used allowing for text to be placed
easily on the image without being difficult to
read
- It might have been created by using backlighting
to make the light appear behind the band members.
