About Client
- ScaleArc is the database traffic management
software appliance that improves the performance
and availability of mission-critical SQL
applications using its patented technology that
abstracts database servers to provide instant
horizontal scaling and connection management.
Challenge
- Integration with Microsoft System Center for
health and statistics monitoring of ScaleArc
instances within user defined clusters.
Requirements
- Develop Custom Management Pack that works with
the following versions of Microsoft SCOM2012-SP1
servers/managers - Installing the management pack probe agent on to
a ScaleArc machine would be one click operation
from the SCOM console. - Discovering and monitoring ScaleArc servers and
statistics counters for performance and
availability
SCOM Layout We built central management server
with the custom management pack. The server reads
and writes meta-data to the operational database
hosted on the SCOM server. It also connects with
the ScaleArc servers for monitoring ScaleArc
specific counters. Counters are categorized by
context i.e. Systems context, Cluster context,
DB-context etc.
3Solution - Architecture
Solution
- SCOM management pack discovers, identifies and
monitors multiple ScaleArc servers in the
network. - The response and aggregated counters returned
from the ScaleArc service is displayed to the
user on SCOM UI. - Linux specific counters as well as Cluster
specific counters are fetched through the agent
and displayed on the SCOM UI. - Rules are configured on SCOM server, which can
generate alerts to be displayed on the SCOM
console.
