Dooars the word is derived from the word duar
or door. The name signifies its location as a
gateway to the hill stations of North Bengal and
Sikkim as well as Bhutan and Assam. The 130 X 40
sq.kms tretched Dooars valley, an important
travel destination of Eastern Himalaya, is
covered with lush green forests and teagardens
and intersected by the rivers like Tista, Torsha,
Jaldhaka their innumerable tributaries. It is
the home to one-horned Rhino, Gaur and many other
rare species. A tour or a safari through these
forests of Dooars will be a life time experience.

Nature of Dooars
Dooars, part of the North Bengal, is an extremely
adventurous destination with choices for all
niches of travelers. From exploring the
unfamiliar jungles of Gorumara to hanging around
with tigers at Buxa Tiger Reserve the jungles
here offer exciting options. One can also choose
to take a Dooars Jungle Tour and spot all the
mysterious trees and birds around the region with
occasional views of wild animals.
Dooars is one of the very few places left in the
country where nature is so lavish of her green
facilities. The unending stretches of virgin
forests are cress-crossed by the River Teesta
and her innumerable tributaries. Looking like
molten silver against their setting sun,
beautiful motor able roads cut through the deep
forests, rich with wild life mauve hills stand
at the end of graceful plains.
4
The forest looks enchanting by the sweet songs of
the unknown birds. The melody of the grooves
forces you to surrender the sophistries you so
carefully have cultivated in the city. After a
day's journey through the splendid scenery,
A happy twilight will bid you retire in the cozy
comfort of luxurious log cabins, and leave for
you a million dreams of the glorious morrow
that is the Dooars. A land that loads you with
the gifts of nature.

The black-crested Bulbul is generally about 19 cm
in length. As the name suggests, the head of this
bulbul is black while the rest of its body is in
different shades of yellow. Both the male and
female are similar in plumage. One can make out a
younger bird by its slightly duller coloring.
The adult Asian Fairy Bluebird is about 24 to 27
cm (9.4 to 10.6 in). The male has glossy,
iridescent blue upperparts, and black under parts
and flight feathers. The female and first year
male are entirely dull blue-green.
6
The biggest river of North Bengal is TEESTA.
The foothills of eastern Himalayas are divided
into two parts by the river Teesta. These two
parts are known as Tarai Dooars. The western
part of the river Teesta is called TARAI and
eastern part is called DOOARS.
A vast texture of dense forests teeming with
wildlife, unending tea gardens, bubbling rivers,
interspersed with sleepy or busy settlements,
constitute this fascinating tourist destination
the TARAI AND DOOARS where nature has kept her
doors wide open. Here lies abundantly splendid
gifts of nature and enormous resources for
Eco-Tourism.
