3A gentle reminder, though not all of these firms
are legitimate. In fact, if youre not careful,
you might end up a victim of unscrupulous
agencies that offer instant credit repair
programs.
So, as much as possible, you should try to fix
your credit problems first, all by yourself. To
succeed in this endeavor, we suggest you check
the following tips in mind
4- 1. Control credit card spending
- Cut down your debts, not to add to the pile.
- Dont be tempted to buy your groceries or pay
your bills with your credit card (especially if
you cant pay off your full balance on time)
5- 2. Check your credit report
- Know exactly where you stand. Check if all the
charges in your accounts are correct - Order a copy of your credit report from each of
three major credit bureaus - If you havent received your free report for this
year, you are entitled to receive one free report
from each of the three bureaus by simply visiting
annualcreditreport.com.
6- If you find any inaccuracy in your report, have
those errors corrected by sending a letter to the
bureau that issued your report. - If you have issues in different accounts, it is
recommended that you send a separate letter for
each account. - Upon receipt of your letter, the bureau will
conduct an investigation which can last up to 30
days. -
7- 4. Keep up with your latest bills.
- See to it that you will not be late with your
current bills. - Keep in mind that 35 of your final rating is
based upon payment history so each time you miss
a due date of payment, your credit score drops by
a few points.
8- 5. Never close an account with existing balance.
- Dont be tempted to cancel an account with unpaid
charges. - You cannot escape your responsibilities in this
way. - Doing so will only inflict more damage to your
personal credit. - If you cannot pay your charges at once, speak
with the creditor involved and request for
modification in your repayment terms to make
repayment less of a burden.
9- 6. Seek professional help with caution.
- In extreme cases, it may be best to get help from
a credit counselling agency. - Make sure that you will be getting assistance
from the right source. - Begin your search by checking the National
Foundation for Credit Counselling for a list of
accredited credit counselling agencies. - (Original Source Bad Credit - You Can Do
