While the piano never changed and it still served
the same function as before, society dictated
that it was not worth as much as it was in its
heyday. The subtle changes of society spelled
major changes for pianos.
History has already seen a massive decline in the
use of pianos, the factor that it all depends
upon is popularity.

Today, the situation is a little different. While
it is true, that the pianos popularity is at a
relative-low and doesnt show any signs of
picking up again, there is a different threat to
the piano than just public popularity.

radio is a real threat to the piano.

Now that view of the keyboard is changing. With
increasingly better standards of technology for
keyboards, it is possible now for a keyboard to
have the exact same qualities as a piano, without
any of its faults.

The keyboard does not bode well for the
traditional piano. More and more people, new
consumers anyway, are on the lookout for a
keyboard rather than a piano. Unless youre a
homeowner who has a flair for the traditional
(which is increasingly a rare taste), youre
probably at least considering both options. The
slump in consumer demand for pianos is a telling
sign of their impending endangerment, whether
its for better or for worse.
