How to Avoid Dishonest Home Builders
Avoiding a dishonest builder is harder than you
would think. People seem to think all home
builders are dishonest and so they don't share
their stories. There are good builders out there.

Research the builders that build in your area of
interest. If you like an area but don't like the
builder find another area.
Search the Internet for "Builder's Name" and
"Reviews". If there are no reviews you can take
that as a good sign or that the builder is new

• Search the Better Business Bureau website for the
  builder's rating. Check to see if they resolved
  the issues. Also note that it is a bad sign if it
  became an issue with the BBB at all.
• Ask the neighbors where you are wanting to build
  about the builder. Ask them specifics and you
  will get specific answers.
• Look at Homes the builder has built. Are shingles
  falling off the roof? Is stucco cracked? Does the
  concrete driveway look uniform? Is the grass
  lumpy?

Don't be rushed into signing anything. Recognize
warning signs like not given enough time to
understand the contract or not documenting
EVERYTHING you talk about.
