The GRE general test
  • The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General
Test is designed to provide graduate schools with
a common measure for comparing the qualifications
of applicants. A large number of Engineering as
well as Management schools, use GRE scores to
determine eligibility of a student for their
programs and for merit-based grants and
    fellowships.
  • Preparing for the GRE can help you get into the
grad or post grad school of your choice and can
greatly increase your chances of getting
financial aid. An increasingly number of B
schools have started accepting GRE score for
their management programs but please check with
the university of your choice about the
acceptance of GRE scores before starting your
    preparation.
  • Based on geographical conditions, the GRE General
Test is offered in two formats
  • a) Computer-based test
  • b) Paper-based test
  • In most of the countries such as United states,
Canada, India, Nepal etc, the GRE general test is
    computer based.
  • Paper-based GRE General Test administrations are
offered in other areas of the world where
    computer-based testing is not available.
  • If you are unsure which test to choose, pls check
the following link Test format for my location?

The GRE subject test
  • GRE Subject Test scores are accepted by thousands
    of graduate schools, including individual
departments or divisions within these schools.
Although the scores may not be a requirement for
admission to a particular program, admissions
committees are likely to consider the scores if
they are submitted. Its best to contact the
admissions office or department youre interested
in and see exactly what theyre looking for.
  • Subject Tests are intended for students with
extensive background in one of these eight
    disciplines
  • Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular
    BiologyBiologyChemistryComputer
    ScienceLiterature in EnglishMathematicsPhysics
    Psychology
  • bject Tests are paper-based tests and are
administered three times a year worldwide, in
    October. November. April.

Application procedure
  • Most universities more or less follow the same
admission procedure. The most common requirements
    are
  • Your undergrad performance. (GPA)
  • Your GRE score
  • Letters of Recommendation (LORs)
  • Statement of purpose (SOPs)
  • TOEFL/ IELTS score
  • Your GRE Subject test ( Mostly optional, depends
    on your course university )
  • Universities may have specific requirements for
some of their courses and you need to check with
    the university for the same.
  • Once you receive your GRE score, you can apply to
the universities of your choice. Most reputed
universities/ colleges accept score reported from
    ETS only.
  • So, unlike our education system PHOTOCOPIES of
scorecards (GRE/ TOEFL/IELTS) are not allowed.
You have to order ETS to report your scores to
the universities of your choice, which of course
    is chargeable by ETS.

Scores Reporting
  • In GRE you would be obtain scores on following
    scales
  • AWA 0-6
  • VA 130 -170
  • QA 130-170
  • Analytical Writing Assessment scores are
presented in half-point increments on a scale of
0 to 6. Your Analytical Writing Assessment score
is reported separately and does not count toward
    your Total score.
  • The Quantitative and Verbal sections are each
scored on scale of 130 to 170,
  • in one point increments. The scoring in each of
these sections is computer adaptive and takes
into account the difficulty and statistical
qualities of the questions asked, and the number
    of questions answered correctly.
  • GRE Total scores are based on the Quantitative
    and Verbal scores.
  • Once taken a GRE score holds good for five years.
