What lies between latitude 29 and 34N at an
exact longitude of 35 and 40E? What is the home
to ancient kingdoms of the Persians, Romans and
once ruled by the Ottoman Empire? What can be
said of this Islamic state shaken by conflicting
powers since the 11th century? From the ashes,
she rose, the kingdom of Jordan. It is now ruled
by King Abdullah II and a cabinet of majestic
heirs, whom are his children. But their mother is
Rania, Queen Rania. She
has the allure of Princess Diana and the
celebrity of Rumi. Once upon a time in Egypt
they might have called her Nafteta, meaning
(the beauty has come). Such a name was given
to Nefertiti. And the comparisons are
boundless. Such a wonder, she is, that wakes up
every day feeling like a regular person. That is
something she said once. But instead Rania is
the future of the Jordan community. She is the
sole protector of Jordans children, helping to
repair local schools and inspiring partnerships
to create a society built on a landscape of
quality education. She is encouraging agencies to
implement higher teaching standards and
promoting health awareness. The Jordan River
Foundation is her base that extends towards
Jordans disadvantaged. From families that need
healing to abused children, the JRF is the
epicenter of knowledge and excellence that is
being shared the world over. Ranias emergence
can only be described as a pure, pulsating, beam
of positive oscillating lights subduing shadows
and opposing viewpoints, each time she appears or
speaks. And not just for Jordan but for global
action, human potential and individual
responsibility. Queen Rania is a cross cultural
icon, the Eminent Advocate for UNICEF, honorary
chairperson of UNGEI, and a writer. She is the
author of the New York Times Best seller The
Sandwich Shop. Her recent Atlantic Council
Global Citizen Award cements her place in time.
Rania is the spirit of a broken world that needs
her. I am happy to share her brief story with you
