Title:

Things to know before you undergo nasal surgery

Description:

The nose is the center of your face and gets a lot of attention. If your nose is too small, or too big it can cause you to be extremely self-conscious. If you want to make your nose look more attractive then you should undergo rhinoplasty. It is estimated that 15 percent of people having the procedure done each year are doing it because they are dissatisfied with their nose or having breathing issues from an earlier rhinoplasty. Make sure that you are confident in your doctor’s abilities before having the procedure done. For further queries you can dial 914.290.4700 / 914-752-2669 or email Dr. Farella at info@drfarella.com. Title: Things to know before you undergo nasal surgery

1
Things to know before you undergo nasal
surgery
2
  • Dr. Farella is a well known cosmetic surgeon
  • in Westchester, New York.
  • He is a specialist in all forms of plastic
    surgery.

3
Basic things to know before you undergo surgery
for nose
  • Nose surgery, medically known as rhinoplasty is a
cosmetic procedure that is done to correct the
shape and size of the nose. It corrects problems
such as a prominent nasal hump or a hooked nose.
  • Rhinoplasty can also correct a deviated septum, a
condition in which the bone the wall that divides
your left from your right nostril is deviated
    from its normal position.

4
Consultation with plastic surgeon
  • A consultation is most important if you want to
have a nose job done. Through it your surgeon can
assess the type of nose that would be most
    proportionate to your face.

5
Anesthesia is used in the process
  • This is performed as an outpatient procedure
which uses a general or local anesthesia. The
entire procedure can take 2-4 hours.

6
Approaches in making incision
  • There are two approaches in making incisions. It
can either be the open approach, where the
incision is made at the bottom of the nose
between the nostrils, or the closed technique
where incisions are made on the mucosal lining.
So there will be no problem regarding visible
    scars on your face.

7
  • The doctor would have to remove or rearrange
cartilage inside your nose he might also have to
break some bones, but gently of course, to
position your nose more nicely. Surgeons prefer
to use your own tissues because this reduces the
risk of rejection and infection later on.

8
Post surgery ..
  • You may feel a little woozy the first few days
after the surgery, and it is expected that you
might vomit a black fluids hours after surgery.
Dont be alarmed because this is just some blood
that you have swallowed after surgery. If you
have a high fever, contact your surgeon
    immediately.

9
  • A cast or a bandage will be applied on your nose
for a few days to hold it in place and to protect
it. The first few weeks can be full of discomfort
with the swelling inside, making it difficult for
you to breathe nasally. Your nose can also become
    pretty sensitive around this time.

10
  • Removal of the cast and bandage may not be very
painful. However it may sting a bit. Swelling and
bruising might still be visible for a few weeks,
and at this time you should be very careful not
    to bump your nose.

11
  • You can already appreciate results on the first
month after your nose surgery, but every
post-surgical reaction and healing will usually
    last a year.
