What This Means
  • We service 40 young people from age 12 18 and
    20 from age 6 - 11.
  • We went from having kids thrown off the bus and
in trouble constantly in junior high to being
able to complete high school without any
    incidence.
  • Kids in court and on probation come off probation
    without reoffending.
  • Of the original kids that started the program in
2002 currently we have students at Memorial
University of Newfoundland, University of New
Mexico, Dartmouth and Harvard University and one
young man employed by our Tribe.

58
Next Steps
  • Increase participation of Tribal youth beyond the
    boundaries of our island.
  • Continue to teach abstinence through spiritual
    and traditional practices.
  • Nurture their leadership abilities.
  • Encourage our youth to move onto college and
    other higher education opportunities.
  • Instill pride in our youth about who they are,
where they come and the abilities they possess.
