Title: SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS

1
SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS
  • I THESSALONIANS 521

2
Is it dishonesty when you gamble at a legal
establishment such as race tracks, casinos or
lotteries?
  • Like many other things that arise, there is no
passage of Scripture that says, You shall not
    gamble or Gambling is right.
  • ARGUMENTS USED AGAINST IT
  • Not way God intended us to make money Ephesians
    428
  • Violates the golden rule Matthew 712

3
continued
  • Whole concept of something for nothing violates
    Scripture.
  • Often tied to other kinds of evil that makes it
    bad 2 Corinthians 614-18
  • Organized crime
  • Drinking
  • Drugs
  • Addictive
  • Often results in people who cant afford it
losing everything in hopes of winning big.

4
ARGUMENTS FOR IT
  • Just entertainment. I dont spend any more
there than you would at Branson, etc.
  • Does good for education, taxes for state.
  • Not forbidden.
  • Similar to casting lots in the Bible that God
    ordained.

5
WISDOM?
  • Would go too far for us to say for everyone that
it is sinful to go to horse races or casino, or
    buy lottery tickets.
  • It isnt a wise use of your money. Most lose.
Thats how the places stay in business.
  • It does support things we should be opposed to.
  • Better ways to invest for the future.

6
DOES THE END JUSTIFY THE MEANS?
  • Arguments made on many issues go back to this
concept. If good can come out of it there must
    be something good in it.
  • Illustration Legalize drugs.
  • Kills the black market.
  • No longer tied to crime and gangs.
  • We can collect taxes on the sells.
  • Just like with liquor.

7
Faulty premises
  • End doesnt justify the means Romans 520-63
  • Making alcohol legal hasnt cut down on
    drunkenness, or alcoholism.
  • Making it legal hasnt stopped the illegal trade
    or sell to minors.
  • Turning something over to the government seldom
    solves a problem.

8
ANSWERS DONT LIE WITH THE GOVERNMENT
  • Church needs to teach people how to live.
  • Families need to teach their children whats
right, wrong and who they are.
  • We need to rid ourselves of the things that
    promote evil.
  • Companions - I Corinthians 1533
  • Music
  • Entertainment
