Whole Sport Plan 2005 - 2009
  • The aim of the plan was to deliver on
    performance, health-related fitness and social
    inclusion through
  • A radical change in governance
  • The appointment of 4 Development Officers based
    on Boxing hot spots
  • The appointment of 4 World Class Performance
    Coaches, working with coaches of our top boxers
    and influencing all aspects of coach development
    and education

Current WSP Outcomes
  • Modernised and created a successful Board,
    Council and Commissions structure
  • Increased the number of ABAE affiliated clubs
    from 619 (March 2005) to 750 (March 2008) a
    total increase of 20.
  • Increased the number of registered members from
    7000 (March 2005) to over 15000 (April 2007) a
    total increase of 100
  • Developed and launched a successful website,
    which has risen from 90000 per year (2005/6) to
    visits of over 3 million for the year
    (2006/2007).
  • ABAE have increased income by over 200 in one
    year, trebling the former income streams of 2005
    to these new levels of 2007.

Current WSP Outcomes
  • Developed and launched the most contemporary
    membership database in British sport through an
    agreement and contract with BT (LDL), delivered
    through a robust, modern ICT network supported by
    regional registrars.
  • Secured 1.2 million of CCDP funding from the
    Department of Culture, Media and Sport/ Sport
    England for 180 ABAE club projects throughout
    England, to be completed by August 2007.
  • Secured a BBC TV contract for four events a year,
    profiling the sport at an international level on
    terrestrial television potentially until 2012.
  • Shortly to appoint and re-establish the Regional
    coaches Structure throughout the sport in
    England.
  • Created a National Development Managers post and
    National Womens Development Managers post.

Current WSP Outcomes
  • Negotiated and delivered the appointment of seven
    Boxing Development Officers with major local
    authorities and other partners in Sheffield, Tyne
    Tees, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol
    and London with Bolton, Portsmouth and London
    (potentially two) to be further implemented
    shortly, offering a total of eleven posts by July
    2007, compared to one in 2005.
  • Developed and produced a new Boxing skills award.
  • Launched and registered over 1000 boxing tutors
    in the past year.
  • Funded regional development equally across the
    regions of ABAE
  • Created and developed an ABAE quarterly magazine,
    Cornertalk.

Current WSP Outcomes
  • Developed and gained Sport England accreditation
    for the ABAE Club Mark Programme.
  • Negotiated and secured a substantial package of
    sponsorship with the Royal Navy and Royal Marines
    for the Golden Gloves and Junior ABAE
    Championships for 4 years.
  • Negotiated and delivered lead Home Nation status
    for UK Sport funding of the GB Boxing Programme
    through to Beijing 2008.
  • Commenced the establishment of an ABAE Archive
    which will be launched for the London Olympics
    2012.
  • ABAE launched a re-written Medical Aspects
    Booklet, which has been supported by the World
    governing body, AIBA
