2What is IOWA?
The IOWA is a norm-referenced test based on
general curriculum goals that are common to most
programs throughout the nation in the autumn. It
is designed to be primarily to provide a general
look at the performance of a student or school in
a given subject area referenced to the
performance of a nationally representative
group--the norm group.
3Security of Test Materials
- All materials associated with IOWA are secure
materials. It is important not to provide an
opportunity for any student to have access to the
tests. Prior exposure will invalidate score. - Materials cannot be photocopies or reproduced in
any manner, including paraphrasing.
- Test questions may not be taught in part or in
whole prior to, during or after testing. Answers
may not be provided in any fashion. - Answers may not be erased or altered by anyone
other than the student.
4Security of Test Materials(cont.)
- School Test Coordinators are asked to account for
and return ALL test booklets, practice tests and
manuals. - After testing, ALL test materials will be
returned to the district office.
5Inventory Test Materials(School)
- Count all tests and manuals as they arrive at the
school. The District Summery Packing Slip is
located in Box 1. Count the number of boxes you
receive. - Save the boxes materials were shipped in. Use
these same boxes to return materials to District
Office.. - If test security guidelines are violated
According to Utah Code, Section 53A-1-608(3) The
State Board of Education may revoke the
certification of an individual who violates this
section.
6Prep for Test Administration
- Practice Tests-Familiarize your students with the
format of the test. Students should not use the
back page for their answers. Make copies of the
answer sheet for students to use. - Student Test Booklets and Answer Sheets - each
student will receive a booklet and answer sheet.
- Building Identification Sheet - (purple
pre-printed sheets). Do NOT make changes on this
form - Grade/Class Identification Sheets (blue). Please
fill in - Information Box

7Answer Sheet Instructions
- Use only a 2 pencil.
- Pre-printed answer sheets may be used only for
the student whose name appears on the answer
sheet. - When using pre-printed answer sheets, do not
bubble in any information. - Monitoring procedures during testing should
safeguard against students making stray marks
anywhere on the answer sheet other than in the
appropriate response fields.
- Students not receiving a pre-printed sheet will
be provided a blank answer sheet. Coding is
REQUIRED in ALL fields as follows - Student Last, First Name
- Student
- (left justify, dont fill w/ 0s)
- Birth date
- Gender
- Race
8Post TestQuality Screening
- If blank answer sheet was used, check that all
information is bubbled in. - Remove tape, sticky notes, paper clips, etc.
Foreign objects damage the scanner. - Remove all work sheets and/or blank papers.
- Check that marks have not been made in the timing
track areas. - No white-out has been used.
- Answer responses are appropriately marked and
darkened with a 2 pencil. - Erase any stray marks in the student number or
binary code fields. - Do not use staples.
- Check that erasure marks are clean.
- Do not need to alphabetize.

- Prepare boxes
- Place materials in same boxes you received them
in. - Summary of Materials form on top of all materials
- Building ID sheet on top of all answer sheets
- Class ID Sheet under Building ID sheet
- Answer sheets under Class ID sheet
- Do not split a class between two boxes
