Why conduct the Scan?

• Cessation of any meaningful development of
  Horizon 7
• The abandonment of the obvious upgrade path for
  Horizon
• Move from Sybase database platform to ORACLE
  database platform
• Delivery of Quality services in Web 2 environment
• Improved Discovery Interface to library resources
• Identify systems-related infrastructure to
  improve client service
• Better interoperability between the ILS and UTAS
  corporate systems

What did we hope to achieve?

• A review of library system developments from
  current documented sources
• Library staff perceptions of the Library and
  library services in 5 years time
• Updating of the critical functionality required
  to manage library materials
• Investigation of options for a fully featured
  resource discovery interface
• Investigation of the way the Library and its
  services could interact with clients in a Web2.0
  environment
• Investigation of infrastructure possibilities to
  enhance client self-service, and better utilise
  Library staff

• Investigation of options for closer integration
  of the Library and online learning environments
• Investigation of integration possibilities with
  other UTAS library and administrative systems
• Discovery of UTAS forecasts for its IT
  environment and systems for 2009-2014
• Assessment of a broad selection of possible
  vendors to provide functions

  support and governance issues

  with other major Tasmanian libraries
