3
What is A.P. Studio Art?
  • Advanced placement art is designed for
students who are serious about art. At the
completion of the course a portfolio is sent to
the College Board to be scored. Many colleges
give credit for a score of 3 or better.

4
What is A.P. Studio Art?
  • This is a very structured course. Our
goal is for all students to succeed. The first
year is all assigned work and the second year is
monitored closely by the teacher. This is not a
course where the student gets to do whatever
they want. It requires a great deal on
discipline on the part of the students.

5
What are the benefits of A.P. Art?
  • Individualized Instruction
  • Great opportunity for artistic growth
  • Impressive body of work
  • Sense of accomplishment
  • College Credit

6
What will you accomplish in A.P.Art?
  • In A.P. Art you will create a portfolio of
20 high quality pieces. 12 will be made for the
breadth section. 8 drawings will be for the
concentration section. From these 20 we will
choose 5 pieces for the quality section.

7
Concentration
  • The second year of AP art the student
chooses a concentration . This is a body of 8
drawings that are tied together either by a
theme, subject matter or a technical concern.

Kim did a concentration based on her kitchen.

Concentration
  • This is the last of Kims examples . The next
    concentration is
  • Chelsea. Chelsea did a study of perspective
    in buildings.

  • The next concentration is Mike. He
    did drawings of his family.

Concentration
  • These are a just few examples from three
concentrations. The possible subjects for a
concentration are vast. At the beginning of the
second year the student and the teacher choose a
subject for the student to work on the entire
    year.

16
Breadth
  • The Breadth section is a series of 12
assignments designed to demonstrate a variety of
skills and knowledge. All first year students do
the same assignments. The work from Drawing and
Painting is also part of this section.

17
Breadth
  • This next set of drawings are examples of
an assignment on patterns by students.

Breadth
  • The next set of drawings is an assignment
to draw a manikin in an action pose and then to
create a background to go with it.

Breadth
  • The final example from the breadth section
is an assignment to draw a word using 2 point
perspective letters. The background needs to add
to the meaning of the word.

  • Hopefully by looking at all these examples
you can see that despite the fact that the
students have the same assignment there is still
a lot of room for individual interpretation.
