6The new year in January is a time for partying,
but the Jewish New Year has a different mood
Jewish people go to the synagogue to pray, and
spend time with their families.
7The shofar, a rams horn, is blown in the
synagogue
8It is like a wake up call, reminding people to
think about the past year
They think about making themselves better people
and the world a better place in the year ahead.
9They pray for a sweet new year and eat apple
dipped in honey.
10On the Sabbath Jewish people usually eat plaited
loaves, called challah, but on Rosh Hashanah the
loaves are round.
11SHANA TOVA!
They send greetings cards which say Shana Tova,
Happy New Year.
