  • In 2000, nearly 80 of the worlds 500 largest
    companies use their web sites for recruiting, up
    from 60 in 1999 and 29 in 1998

Effective Videoconference Interviews
  • Pre-Interview Planning
  • Ensure that the interviewers have all of the
    appropriate documentation prior to the interview
    (resumes, writing examples, etc.)
  • Familiarize yourself with the room, equipment and
    process
  • Ensure you have the phone number and VC number of
    the interviewer and that they have yours!
  • Clarify the time make sure you specify a time
    zone

Effective Videoconference Interviews
  • The Day of the Interview
  • Avoid hot colors, busy patterns, white and black
    clothing
  • Get to the room early to make sure it is set up
    (at least 15 minutes)
  • Check that your volume is not muted
  • Once you enter the videoconference room act as
    though the interviewer is there with you.

Effective Videoconference Interviews
  • During the Interview
  • Introduce yourself
  • Maintain good eye contact
  • Speak in a normal tone of voice
  • Always speak clearly and towards the microphone
  • Be prepared for a time lag in the presentation
    avoid interrupting
  • Avoid distracting noises and movements (finger
    tapping, shuffling papers, clicking pens)
  • If technical problems arise, remain composed
  • Try to project yourself and your personality into
    the interviewers room
  • Watch the news and observe the anchor be like
    Tom Brokaw
