3Is a Paddle Trail Needed?
- National, state, and local data indicates
major growth in paddle sports - Oregon State Parks developed a Water Trails
Program (2003) - Deschutes River is Wild And Scenic - Ideal for
Water Trail - 59 Bend Residents support greater access to
river (2004) - Increase recreational opportunities, enhance
safety, promote
conservation/stewardship, and provide
educational opportunities - And this value can be provided with a
relatively small investment

- BPTA shall promote and establish a navigable
paddle trail within Deschutes County that will
enhance recreation and river appreciation for a
wide variety of recreational water enthusiasts
while promoting river safety, education, and
stewardship.
5Scope of Deschutes Paddle Trail
- A water trail to provide a safe environment for a
broad range of enthusiasts - Includes whitewater sections for kayaks, canoes
and rafts, flatwater and touring sections, and
lake opportunities - Includes 93 miles of Deschutes River, 25 miles of
Little Deschutes River, and 9 Cascade Lakes
