• The flag has thirteen horizontal stripes, seven
  red with six white.

  the stars represent the 50 states of the Union.

• Abraham Lincoln was one of our most famous and
  important presidents.
• He was the 16th president of the United States.
• He was president from 1860 1865
• His picture is on the American penny and on the
  five dollar bill.
• Many cities, streets, and schools are named after
  him.

• He was born on February 12th 1809.
• He was born in a log cabin in Kentucky.
• His family was poor.
• He had an older sister and a younger brother.
• He moved to Indiana in 1816 and lived there the
  rest of his youth.

• The slaves were freed and the United States
  became united again.
• The 13th Amendment freed the slaves.
• About four million slaves were freed in 1865.
• About 970,00 people died during the Civil War.
• Lincoln wanted to be President, he wanted the
  whole country to have freedom.

• He died on April 15th ,1865.
• He was 56 years old.
• An actor named John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln in
  the back of his head when he was at the Ford
  Theater in Washington D.C.

• He is buried in Springfield, Illinois.
• His wife Mary and their four sons are also buried
  there.

• The Lincoln Memorial is in Washington D.C. near
  the Potomac River.
• Above his statue is written IN THIS TEMPLE AS
  IN THE HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE FOR WHOM HE SAVED THE
  UNION THE MEMORY OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN IS ENSHRINED
  FOREVER
