participate, let us know and we will match you
    up
  • Please send us the names of your team members and
the stock you wish to cover by next Wednesday,
    October 31st
  • You will also be assigned a MBA2 mentor who will
    offer insight and advice

4
Suggestions for Selecting a Stock
  • The contest is a great opportunity to research
companies and develop opinions on their
    investment prospects
  • Both these skills and investment ideas are key
for succeeding in the recruiting process
  • Think about choosing companies which you will be
able to talk about during your interviews
  • We encourage picking stocks you are interested
in, however, try to tie the stock into your view
on the economy (i.e if you state in an
interview that you are really bearish, its
probably not a good idea to pick a consumer
    discretionary stock)

5
Gathering Data
  • Theres a wide variety of useful sources
    available to Stern students
  • Bloomberg and Capital IQ will be your primary
sources but other useful providers can be found
    on the Virtual Business Library
  • http//www.nyu.edu/library/bobst/vbl/index.html

6
Building Your Model
  • Useful templates can be found at
  • http//pages.stern.nyu.edu/aim/research.html
  • http//pages.stern.nyu.edu/adamodar/
  • Other models are also welcome, however they must
all be of your own design and composition
  • Your mentors will also be able to offer advice on
how best to approach this exercise
  • We suggest building a DCF as it will be good
    practice

7
Drafting your Report
  • Once youve finished the model and performed a
thorough qualitative analysis start forming an
    investment thesis for your company
  • Refer to the examples on the website for good
ideas on what to include in a report
  • Reports will be judged by according to
  • Quality of the research
  • How effectively the investment thesis was
    communicated

8
Final Selection
  • The top 5 teams will be announced shortly after
    the reports are submitted
  • These teams will then go on to present their
investment ideas to a panel of Sell-Side analysts
at the AIM reception near the end of November

9
