3Browser Check (formerly Installation Wizard)
At the end of the course creation process,
instructors will be prompted to run Browser Check
if they need the latest version of Flash.
4Browser Check (continued)
Browser Check shows at a glance (on one page!)
what needs to be installed as well as what is
already on the computer.
Additional links provide more information and
help.
5Browser Check (continued)
Students who need the latest version of Flash
will be prompted to run Browser Check the first
time they try to do homework or take a test.
6Show/Hide Learning Aids
Instructors can choose to show or hide Learning
Aids for the whole course, including the Study
Plan. They can also specify that students will
not need the TestGen plug-in, and Browser Check
will not prompt for it.
Unchecking a learning aid here will hide it in
the whole course.
7Show/Hide Learning Aids
Instructors can also show or hide learning aids
for individual homework assignments or tests and
quizzes.
Clicking Change... brings up the list of learning
aids available for this assignment, any one of
which can be turned off.
Or, instructors can choose to show any learning
aid in Review mode only!
8Add Comments during Review
While reviewing a students test, quiz, or
homework, instructors can add question-specific
comments for the student.
9Add Comments during Review (continued)
The instructor comment is automatically displayed
the first time students review their test, quiz,
or homework. Later, they can click the View
Comment button to see it again.
10Email Enhancements
Coordinators will be able to email announcements
to all active students in all member courses.
11Email Enhancements (continued)
Even though the Coordinator sees all member
courses listed in the To line of the email,
individual students will see only their own
names.
12Email Enhancements (continued)
A second email enhancement is the new Email
Student link next to the students name on the
Results page. Using this link, instructors can
email students about multiple assignments at
once, rather than a single assignment at a time.
13Email Enhancements (continued)
A third email enhancement lets instructors search
for and email students using different criteria
such as overall score, incomplete work within a
given time frame, last login date, and so on.
14Email Enhancements (continued)
15Email Enhancements (continued)
Clicking Next from the previous screen brings up
a list of students who meet the specified
criteria.
Note Instructors can export this list as a
comma-separated file.
16Email Enhancements (continued)
A View/Remove Students link gives instructors a
chance to verify the students who will receive
the email.
17Email Enhancements (continued)
Whether or not the instructor clicks the View /
Remove link, he or she will see a confirmation
after sending the email.
18Email Enhancements (continued)
Using this same easy process, instructors can
select other criteria for sending emails to
students...
19Sharing Custom Exercises
Instructors can share their custom exercises with
colleagues, without having to include the
exercises in assignments first.
As part of the save exercise process, instructors
choose to let others copy that exercise.
20Sharing Custom Exercises (continued)
Instructors simply enter their colleagues login
and copy any custom exercises marked as available
for sharing.
21Streamlined Assignments Import
Instructors can import homework, tests, and
quizzes in the same process. Theyll also choose
the course to import from, keeping the list of
assignments from getting too long.
22New Options for Section Instructors
- Course instructors can choose to
- have Section Instructors appear in the
Gradebook as inactive students - let Section Instructors access and edit the
class roster.
23Transitioning to MathXL Player v2
http//www.mymathlab.com/mac_books.pdf What do
instructors need to do to prepare for MathXL
Player v2? Make sure that they and their campus
labs have the LATEST version of the Adobe Flash
Player installed (9.0.115.0 or higher). When we
upgrade a book, users will automatically see the
new MathXL Player v2 when they do homework, take
tests, or work study plan exercises as long as
they have the most up-to-date version of the
Adobe Flash Player installed.
24Additional FunctionalityComing for Fall 2008
25Accessibility Enhancements
- MathXL Player v2 will support JAWS, so it will
read aloud the question text, math formulas, and
images. - Graphs will be printable so they can be used
with tactile graphics technology. - Users can navigate the site using keyboard
controls such as the Tab, Enter, and arrow keys. - Users can also act on page elements such as
dropdown menus by using the keyboard.
26Accessibility Enhancements (continued)
All text and images on the site will have
descriptive labels that JAWS will read aloud when
a visually impaired students mouse hovers over
it.
