What Does the NAEP Math Assessment Measure?

• NAEP measures the mathematics skills of fourth-,
  eighth-, and twelfth-grade students. According
  to the NAEP Mathematics Framework, developed by
  the National Assessment Governing Board, the NAEP
  math assessment measures students ability in
  mathematics content and mathematics complexity.

Mathematics Content

• The NAEP mathematics framework is divided into
  five content domains
• Number Properties and Operations,
• Measurement,
• Geometry,
• Data Analysis and Probability, and
• Algebra.

Mathematics Complexity

• The NAEP mathematics framework is divided into
  three levels of complexity (low, moderate, and
  high) with skills such as
• Recall
• Perform Procedures
• Solve Problems
• Understand Concepts
• Reason
• Make Connections
• Analyze Assumptions
