3Why am I completing theReading Academy?
- The Reading Academy will help you gain the
skills to become an even more effective reading
teacherone who successfully teaches every child
to read. This course will provide you with the
research-based tools needed to accomplish that
goal. In the process you will learn techniques
and strategies for monitoring childrens reading
progress and for providing effective,
differentiated instruction.

- Once you are on the NYSRRC website, click on
Reading Academy. This icon will take you to the

every Survey, Journal activity, and Assessment

32How do I keep track of all ofthis information?
- Create an organizational system (3-ring binder)
to house all of the downloaded information. - Check off completed activities in the Table of
Contents. - Work with your Building Coach as s/he helps you
organize and use the information supplied to you
through the course.
33What happens at the end of the course?
- The Academy is expected to take you around 7
months to complete. - Once all of the requirements are completed,
NYSED - Reading First will be notified. - Participants will then receive a Reading
Academy Certificate of Completion.

- The Reading Academy is an intense learning
experience. Use it wisely. It is expected that
information and strategies presented in this
course will be implemented in your classroom.
