Title: Web Design

1
Web Design
  • Presentation on the Development of Web Design

2
Introduction
  • World Wide Web created in 1991.Since 1991 and
the creation of the World Wide Web we have seen a
    rapid development in website design.
  • First designs text based and non dynamic. The
first designs were primarily text based and
non-dynamic and the user had little interaction
with the web pages they were visiting.
  • Introduction of new technologies and ideas. As
time has gone we have seen the introduction of
things such as graphics, animations, user
interaction and online shopping. We are going to
demonstrate how the websites have improved, both
in the way they work, and the way they look.

3
Text Only
  • This website contains only text with basic text
formatting, such as bold text. There is no user
interaction and its primary function is to
deliver information and there is a lack of
consideration for its layout and design.

4
Graphics Tables
  • This site shows the introduction of graphics into
the page, as well as a structured layout due to
the use of HTML tables. This gives the creator of
the page more control over how the page will be
viewed by its visitors. It is also positive for
visitors to the page as content will be improved
and easier for them to view and find the
    information they are looking for.

5
JavaScript / DHTML / Data
  • Languages such as JavaScript are used to enhance
web pages and servers. It is essentially a small
program contained within a web page which the
developer can use to improve the web page in ways
such as increased interactivity and manipulating
data provided by the visitor, for example a
simple popup box asking the visitor to enter
their name, which is later used in the webpage.

6
Dynamic Content
  • Dynamic content is content on web pages, which
changes or is changed automatically. It has
become an essential feature of modern websites
both for the developers and the users of the
    websites.
  • A few examples of dynamic websites are search
engines, forums, shopping carts. The introduction
of dynamic content has allowed information to
spread more rapidly across the internet and has
greatly increased interactivity over the web and
    communication between people.
  • From the visitors point of view, this doesnt
change how websites look, but increases the
relevance and quality of the information that
    they are trying to access.

7
Flash / Games
  • Introductions of new software applications such
as Flash have greatly enhanced the quality,
functionality and interactivity of web pages.
  • This has allowed the internet to be used for
recreational purposes as well as factual. We have
seen an explosion in games, cartoon animations,
quizzes and more. It has made the internet more
    appealing to a wider audience.

8
Media Content
  • The introduction of faster connections to the
internet such as broadband has allowed different
types of media to be introduced to web pages. We
are now seeing music and film being embedded into
web sites, whether as streaming content or direct
    downloads.

9
Conclusion
  • Over the past 10 to 15 years we have seen a rapid
development in the technologies used on web
pages. Search engines such as Google receive over
3 million queries a day, this shows a change of
only a few thousand people using the internet in
1991 to the millions that use it on a daily basis
in modern society. Accessing the volume of
information that the internet offers has never
been easier or quicker and has fast become an
essential part of most peoples every day lives.
