1
Places you can visit in Korea!
  • By Minsung Ko 3Ja

2
The reason I chose this subject
  • To let people know about Korea
  • Try to learn some more things about Korea
  • Mr. Collonny suggested this

3
Gyeongbokgung (palace)
  • Built at the beginning of the Chosun Dynasty when
the Yi Dynasty moved the capital to Seoul
  • Gyeongbok means Shining Happiness
  • The main gate (Kwanghwa-mun) separates Gyeongbok
Palace from one of the busiest areas of Seoul
  • Gyeongbok Palace was built in 1395
  • destroyed during the Japanese invasion of 1592
and left in ruins for over 250 years. Starting in
    1865, it was rebuilt

4
Deoksugung (palace)
  • Right after the Korean-Japanese War, the king of
the Joseon Dynasty settled temporarily in the
    Deoksugung.
  • In the late 19th century, King Gojong and his
court went to the palace to avoid another
Japanese invasion and it was established as the
    main royal palace again
  • Young people like to come here for dates and
office workers try to take a rest
  • The changing ceremony of the royal guards takes
    place around the front gate.

5
Namdaemun (great south gate)
  • Namdaemun is the one of the 4 main gates of the
old city wall completed in 1398
  • Chosen as national treasure 1
  • Namdaemun market is near to it. Its the one of
the Koreas largest and most popular markets.
  • Seoul station, Deoksugung and city hall is within
    walking distance.

6
Dongdaemun (great east gate)
  • Originally called Heung-injimun ("Gate of
    Uplifting Mercy"),
  • Once served as the main eastern gate in the wall
    surrounding Seoul
  • First built in 1397, it was rebuilt in 1869 in
    its present form
  • There are many places for adult entertainment.

7
Namsan (Seoul tower)
  • Viewable from almost anywhere in Seoul
  • Built on a 262-metre peak in Namsan Park, the
tower reaches to 480 metres above sea level
  • When there is no weather problem and pollution,
visiting the observation tower (370 metres above
sea level) allows you to view the entire city and
    surrounding areas
  • The Cable cars go up to the top of the mountain
and to the top of the tower

8
Gyeongju Bulguk-sa
Rebuilt
  • Originally built in 528.
  • Bulguk-sa provides an excellent example of
    architecture from the Shilla Dynasty
  • Meaning "Buddha Land," it remained intact for
more than 1,000 years before the Japanese
    destroyed it in 1593
  • Only a few of the buildings were rebuilt until
the 1970s when it was completely reconstructed
  • It is a national treasure 1.
