- Former Upgrade Options
- Version Upgrade, Product Upgrade, Language
Upgrade, Competitive Upgrade - Current Model Temporary, until February 28
- All upgrade options are replaced by Software
Assurance (SA) and Upgrade Advantage (UA) - SA and UA provide upgrades and updates for the
length of the Select contract (the Enrollment
Term), July 2003 - UA and SA can be purchased as a stand-alone
item - UA is purchased for older versions
- SA is purchased for current versions.

- Future Model starts March 1st
- Software Assurance (SA) will be the only upgrade
option. - All Upgrade Advantage licenses (UA) will be
converted to SA - SA can be purchased only with a new license
will not be available as a stand-alone product. - Choices for Purchasing New Licenses
- Purchase the License only (L)
- Purchase License-plus-Software-Assurance (LSA)
5Microsoft Licensing Changes
- Penns has a Select 5.1 Agreement
- and the Upgrade Advantage option during the
transition period Oct 1 to Feb 28 - UA Provides upgrades and updates for older
versions for the length of the Select contract
(a/k/a the Enrollment Term) which is from July
2001 through July 2003. - UA can be purchased for non-current versions
- Ex If you have Win98 and purchase UA, you can
upgrade to Win2000 and/or WinXP any time before
July 2003. - UA licenses will be converted automatically to SA
on March 1st

- Purchase Upgrade Advantage now
- Why?
- You expect to move to a newer version before July
2003 - Example Going from Win 2000 to Win XP
- UA cost of 63 will allow you to upgrade to Win
XP at no additional charge any time before July
2003.

- Purchase a new License (only) later
- Why?
- You want to stay with the version you already
have for the near term. - You dont anticipate moving to another version
during the life of Penns agreement (July 2003) -
- Example Office XP Pro new license for 63

- In cases where you choose to purchase new
licenses and anticipate an upgrading to a new
version change during the life of Penns
agreement (July 2003).
