Overview Of LED Driver
  • Why am I working on this?
  • ?There is a need for an LED driver that delivers
a very constant current, which in turn, gives off
a very constant amount of light that can be used
to emulate a certain amount of photons

Prototype
  • A prototype has been made
  • A layout was drawn
  • A board was etched
  • Components were soldered on

6
Steps
  • 1 ? Draw out a Layout in AutoCad

Steps (continued)
  • 2 ? Print it out on Photo paper in a 11 ratio

Copper Clad
  • 3 ? Iron it on to the
    circuit board with a iron

9
Steps (continued)
  • 4 ? Using Ferric Cloride (FeCl3) and a Hot
Plate, Etch the circuit board removing all the
    unwanted Copper

10
Steps (continued)
  • 5 ? Drill the holes for the components and
    solder them onto the board.

Testing
  • Originally, I wanted to see the current pulse
that flows through the LED however, due to the
slow sampling rate of the Pico-Ammeter and the
Program written for Lab-View, this is was not
    attainable at this time

Testing (continued)
  • Solution
  • Look at the Voltage Pulse created across a
resistor and compare it with a spice simulation

Things to Consider
  • The Waveform shown may not be a good
representation of the actual pulse. This is due
to the the 500 MHz scope sampling frequency
(which means it samples every 2 ns). Since we
are dealing with pulses in the nano-second range,
the waveform may be lacking as a really good
    representation of the actual pulse.
