6i-Witness meeting customer need
1.encoder
The encoder takes the video images directly from
the camera codes them into digital (1s and 0s) so
that they can be stored on the system.
The switch takes all of the streams of data
(converted video images) and feeds them into the
NVR (network video recorder).
2. switch
The NVR stores the video onto its hard drive, and
can be configured to store the images at varying
frame rates, resolutions and for set periods of
time.
3. NVR
Redundant Array Independent Disks back up
memory. RAID 5 uses a range of (5) disks that
all independently mirror the hard drive and will
kick-in if needed.
4.RAID
Application management server this manages how
the information is held and flowed through the
system (there is a back up of this server
included).
5. Server
Network Time Protocol this information is
embedded into the image at the encoder putting
time and location onto each image using GPS and a
extremely stable internal clock.
6. NTP
The applications sit on an industrial PC where
all the functions of the user application suite
are stored
7. Client
Dual-screen display that allows the operator get
a full view of the i-Witness control desk and
functionality and make full use of drag and drop
capability.

Flexbility
Usability
Flexibility control rooms are budget
constrained and dont want to waste money
recording at higher quality than necessary.
i-Witness allows you to record at a variable
resolutions and frame rates per camera, in fact
two different rates per camera (spot monitors and
background)
Usability operators need an easy to use
interface that intuitively allows to identify and
retrieve the video they wish to review.
The dual-screen display and drag and drop
interface allows operators to easily choose the
cameras they need to view.
Usability quick retrieval of video against
known dates, times and locations.
i-Witness query tools allows you easily and
quickly to search on date, time or location
either by the query tool or just using the drag
drop tools on the viewer.
Flexibility operators often need to search on
the same groups of cameras (for one location) or
sequences of cameras for certain routes
i-Witness allows you to set up pre-set groups and
sequences for your cameras which saves
significant time in identifying and reviewing
footage.
Usability control rooms need to use local maps
to see where the cameras are that need to be
logically reviewed after an incident.
i-Witness has a GIS function that means all of
the cameras are shown overlaid on a map so that
cameras can be picked directly from their
location.

Usability
Usability operators need to be able to review
footage as clearly as possible to identify faces,
car number plates and small but important detail.
i-Witness allows operators to take footage
zoom, crop or rotate it in order to verify and
identify events taking place.
Usability often operators dont want to waste
time with costlier DVDs/CDs when a simple
photography will suffice
i-Witness allows operators to print off, email or
copy a still photograph (JPEG) when required or
simply create one for easier investigation of an
event.
Usability for data protection on copies of
recordings bystanders personal information must
be masked from view.
i-Witness allows operators to mask out detail
when selecting footage for copy it can also be
set up to filter out images on the live camera
feed.
Security control rooms want to save time by
giving third-parties like the police, access to
their video but need at the same time to keep
very close control.
i-Witness allows users three levels of access to
the system (set by the manager) allowing admin
(all functionality), editor (view and copy) and
view only.
Security control rooms need to ensure for data
protection purposes that they can prove data has
only been viewed appropriately.
audit-trail function that captures activity on
the system by user showing when and by whom
images have been viewed and how they have been
manipulated.
Security evidence needs to stand-up to scrutiny
in court and prove that it hasnt been tampered
with.
i-Witness images can only be downloaded by
authorised users (all USB ports have been
disabled) the files are watermarked and
encrypted with MD5
9Working with i-Witness
Map overlays that help operators to
select which maps they need when conducting
an investigation.
Live control-room for four cameras ideal for
spot monitors
Flexible - variable recording configuration by
camera
Secure audit trail That shows who
has accessed what images,
what they did (zoom, crop, rotate)
and when.
Drag and drop interface that allows easy grab of
images or blocks of video by timeline.
Time saving tools
that allow operators to save groups of cameras or
routes that save time when searching
and retrieving.
10Key Usability Advantages
- Save time by finding the relevant video more
quickly and easily - Save money with one system that can do variable
recording options - Variable frame rate and resolution per
camera/input and two different settings per
camera. - Save time finding the footage you need with the
query tool - Save time searching on regular camera and
location selections - Pre-set groups of cameras and routes (sequences
of cameras) - Save time and optimise effectiveness by choosing
the right cameras/footage to view - Allows the operator to select the cameras based
on their position on the map - Optimise your effectiveness by securing the
integrity of your video images as the system
keeps a full log of each activity by user.
11What else?
- What
- MD5 and watermarking encryption
- Why
- Encryption that ensures images are virtually
foolproof and cant be tampered with. - What
- Image manipulation zooming, cropping, masking.
- Why
- Helps operators find the details they need more
often and more quickly. Also masking means that
you can cover data protection requirements on
bystanders without having to incur costly
image-editing post-production. - What
- By converting images via the i-Witness encoding
as they are recorded the i-Witness NTP is able to
embed the date and time of capture into the file. - Why
- Extremely accurate date and time information
increases the security of the image and speeds up
image retrieval.
