Career Development Process (CDP) 1 The Career
Development Process (CDP) is the integrating
process through which you will develop the
career-building skills needed to achieve your
career goals while here at Yale SOM and
throughout your professional life. The CDO has
assembled a multi-media array of online
resources, interactive programs, small group
activities, formal presentations, and other
learning resources to help you master this search
process. Job Search Fundamentals The CDP has
been designed to accommodate the wide variety of
career interests that SOM students are pursuing.
The skills that you develop in the CDP are
relevant for all career searches, including
on-campus recruiting. This process allows you to
build your search skills toolkit in all of the
career search functions self-assessment

development marketing yourself through
networking, resumes, cover letters, and thank you
notes interviewing, including preparation and
follow up and negotiation and acceptance of
offers. Many of the skill-building sessions will
be conducted in conjunction with your Internship
Coaches in small groups of approximately twenty
students. Sessions devoted to a particular
industry or profession (e.g., marketing) may be
presented as an event co-sponsored by the
relevant Professional SIG and the CDO.

Career Alternatives In addition to these job
search exercises and events the CDP will afford
you multiple opportunities to learn about various
career alternatives including the CDO's new "Tell
Me About Your Job" Speakers Series. For more
information about these opportunities, click on
to the Events section of the CDP page. Interview
Strategies The CDP includes many opportunities
to interact with and to learn from employers,
alums, second-year students, the Student Interest
Groups (SIGs), and the CDO staff. Through these
interactions, you will be able to learn about
various interview styles, techniques, and
strategies. Through shared activities, you will
be able to practice your interview techniques and
to get valuable feedback on your performance.

measurement and financial management, just as
ultimately your career will include performance
measurement, improvement, and merit-based
financial rewards.

Overall, the CDP-1 covers the entire career
development process, yet differs in detail and
program for first-and second-year students.

This process is not linear you may be working on
several steps at any one time.
