Introduction to BB Structure
  • A Christian Youth Organisation
  • Boys Brigade - Belfast Battalion
  • Made up of Companies (110 Companies)
  • 5 Geographical Groups in the Battalion
  • 5 Council areas involved are Belfast,
    Castlereagh, Lisburn, Newtownabbey and North
    Down.
  • Average Company enrolment of 50 Boys
  • Belfast Battalion accounts for 1/3 of Northern
    Irelands total BB membership.

B4Sport2 Strategy
  • To give the Battalion, its committees and its
    members well structured, purposeful and
    measurable guidelines and goals for the
    preparation, presentation and implementation of
    programmes and activities which will lead to the
    pursuit of long term as well as more immediate
    personal interests and skills.
  • Eight Key Sports Identified
  • Badminton, Swimming, Volleyball, Table Tennis,
    Gymnastics, Athletics, Football and Outdoor
    Pursuits.
  • Clear Aims and Objectives for each Sport

BB Broncos Multi-Skills Activity Programme
  • Started in May 2006
  • 4 Year Funding from Sport NI - Sport in our
    Community Programme
  • Specifically adapted from the Wild Cats
    Multi-Skills Club in Partnership with Ballymoney
    and Coleraine Borough Councils
  • BB Broncos is an exciting form of Sport/physical
    activity programme aimed at encouraging and
    supporting Boys age 5-11 years old to develop
    physical literacy skills
  • Prepare the Boys for their progression up the BB
    Ladder when they will participate in Battalion
    Sports in the Company Section

Ethos
  • BB Broncos seeks to provide Companies with
    exciting, imaginative and challenging
    multi-skills activities to develop the Boys
    physical literacy skills, confidence and
    enjoyment in Sport.

Programme
  • The BB Broncos aims to follow the guidelines of
    the LISPA framework set out in the Strategy for
    the Development of Sport and Physical Recreation
    in N.Ireland 2007-2017.

  • Junior Section (8-11 yrs) Learning to Play and
    Practice
  • Develop physical literacy skills for the
    progression to Company Section Sports

Aims The Leaders
  • The BB Broncos aims to develop enthusiastic,
    skilled and qualified Multi-Skills coaches from
    BB Leaders through the BB Coach Education
    Programme.
  • It is essential BB Leaders gain qualifications in
    Multi-Skills and other Sports and Physical
    activities to gain the skills, knowledge and
    experience which are required to deliver safe,
    effective and fun physical activities for the
    Boys.
  • Skills for Sport Sport NI 26 Leaders trained
    since 2006
  • Sport For All Leaders Award 32 Leaders trained
    since 2006

Delivery
  • Delivered to two age groups Anchor Boys and
    Junior Section by BB Leaders and Sports Coaches.
  • Anchor Boys development of agility, balance and
    co-ordination and development of core skills
    which provide a good basis for most sports and
    activities e.g. Running, jumping, twisting,
    changing direction, leaping and bounding. High
    Emphasis on Fun.
  • Junior Section development of generic sports
    skills e.g. Throwing, catching, kicking,
    striking, and striking using implements.
    Development of basic tactics and team skills.
    High Emphasis on fun gradually introducing
    competition.
  • Company Section and Senior Section
    Participation in Battalion Sports.

  • Increase the Participation of Companies in the

  • Develop closer links and partnerships with Local
    Council organisations e.g. Ballymoney and
    Coleraine Borough Council Sports Development
    Departments
  • Exploring the idea of a BB Broncos after schools
    club at Ganaway Activity Centre for the local
    community
  • Exploring the idea of a Summer Scheme Programme
    at Ganaway Activity Centre offering the BB
    Broncos Programme
  • Continue to promote and develop the BB Broncos
    programme within the Boys Brigade
  • Secure funding to ensure the future of the
    Programme
