What is a Portfolio?
  • A collection of purposely selected and organized
    artifacts of evidence that document student
    learning in the eight categories of Core Student
    Competencies.

EIGHT CORE STUDENT COMPETENCIES
  • 1. COMMUNICATE ARTICULATELY IN SPEECH AND
    WRITING.
  • 2. THINK CRITICALLY ABOUT ISSUES, THEORY, AND
    APPLICATION.
  • 3. USE EFFECTIVE HUMAN RELATIONSHIP SKILLS TO
    WORK IN A DIVERSE SOCIETY.
  • 4. FUNCTION EFFECTIVELY AND POSITIVELY IN A TEAM
    ENVIRONMENT.
  • 5. USE LIBRARY PRINT AND ELECTRONIC RESOURCES
    FOR LITERATURE RESEARCH.
  • 6. USE COMPUTATIONAL SKILLS TO SOLVE PROBLEMS,
    MANIPULATE AND INTERPRET NUMERICAL DATA, AND
    COMMUNICATE DATA IN A LOGICAL MANNER.

What is included in the Portfolio?
  • All student assignments (16 major assignments),
    journal entries and supplemental assignments that
    students have completed during the semester.
  • Reflection/Reaction papers that support the major
    assignments.

Reflection/Reaction Paper
  • After the student has completed a major
    assignment, the student must write a
    Reflection/Reaction Paper for each.

Reflection/Reaction Page
  • Begin by reflecting on how the evidence of
    learning (assignment) is connected to one of the
    Core Student Competencies.
  • Introduce the assignment by explaining its origin
    and the purpose of the assignment or activity.
  • Describe how the assignment was created or the
    process by which you completed the assignment or
    activity. Think of this as your path of learning.

Reflection/Reaction Page
  • Summarize the connection of the assignment to the
    expectations of leaning by describing how the
    achievement of the Core Student Competency will
    impact you in the future.

Completed Portfolio
  • A completed portfolio will have all major
    assignments with reflection/reactions. Also
    included will be the journal entries and
    supplemental assignments.
