PAC 2005 Abstract ID 2683 "A Test Facility For
The International Linear Collider,
Using SLAC's End Station A for Prototypes of
Beam Delivery and IR Components"
Abstract The SLAC Linac can deliver damped
bunches with ILC parameters for bunch charge and
bunch length to End Station A (ESA). A 10Hz beam
at 28.5 GeV energy can be delivered to ESA, para
sitic with PEP-II operation. During the
engineering design phase for the ILC over the ne
xt 5 years, we plan to use this facility to
prototype and test key components of the Beam De
livery System (BDS) and Interaction Region
(IR). We discuss our plans for this ILC Test
Facility and preparations for carrying out
experiments related to Collimator Wakefields,
Materials Damage Tests and Energy
Spectrometers. We also plan an IR Mockup of the
region within 5 meters of the ILC
Interaction Point to investigate effects from
backgrounds and beam rf higher-order
modes (HOMs).

3 SLAC Test Beam Requests submitted
T-474 BPM energy spectrometer (M. Hildreth,
D. Miller are co-PI) T-475 Synchrotron stripe
spectrometer (E. Torrence is PI)
T-476 Fast Si Detectors for Beam Profile,
Luminosity
T-474 and T-475 were approved February 2005.
T-476 is deferred since it primarily addressed
the warm LC design. Scheduling of T-474 and T-4
75 is not yet addressed. Will approach lab about
this once PEP-II/BaBar and FFTB operations r
esume. Proposal for Collimator Wakefield tests
is nearly complete should submit soon.
(Nigel Watson, PT are co-PI) Proposal to study
EMI effects for ILC Vertex Detectors being
developed. (IR Mockup) (a lot of discussion on
this at LCWS05 ex talks by C. Damerell, D.
Bailey, MW) Proposal to study robustness of IP
BPMs in collider environment will be developed.
(IR Region Mockup)

Working on updating configuration below
1. - setup with 4-magnet chicane, merging
BPM and SR stripe energy chicanes
- same 5mm horiz. dispersion and
similar horiz. spotsize for energy BPMs as
ILC-FF9 - allow longer lever arm to W
akefield BPM diagnostics 2. - simplified ve
rsion of 1. for initial tests (ex no bends and
no remote mover for energy BPMs)

  • Focus of FY05 Program
  • Infrastructure
  • DAQ (both SCP and experimental, ala E-166)
  • Wire scanners for spotsize, emittance
    measurements
  • Bunch length measurements (ala SLC FF Linac
    msmt other?)
  • T-474 for Energy BPM spectrometer commissioning
  • Collimator Wakefield Measurements,
  • Relocating and commissioning ASSET collimator
    wakefield box
  • Will use existing E-158 BPMs and new T-474
    BPMs to measure
  • wakefield kicks similar requirements as T-474

  • on BPM resolution and stability
