• As a result of globalization, the role and
  function of cities has been continuously on the
  rise.
• Taipei is a major medium connecting Taiwan with
  the international community.
• The promotion of city diplomacy is an essential
  element of Taipei City.

Basic Concept

• The policy aims at promoting Taipeis
  international participation, elevating its
  international status and advancing the interest
  of the city and its people.
• In order to become a world-class capital, Taipei
  City must build and advance meaningful and
  substantive cultural, technological, economic,
  and trade exchange between major cities around
  the world.

International Affairs Commission

• Taipei City Government has set up an
  International Affairs Commission to step up
  efforts at creating a more cosmopolitan
  environment.
• It pushes for the internationalization of the
  city by strengthening ties with major cities
  through a variety of exchange programs in the
  areas of sports, culture, trade and technology.

Sister City Relations

• Sister City relations between Taipei and other
  cities around the world have laid a solid and
  successful foundation for promoting cooperation
  and exchange.
• Taipei has set up 45 Sister City Agreements.
• The sister cities were invited to send their
  representatives to participate in a wide range of
  activities, such as the Dragon Boat Race held by
  Taipei City.

Resident Artists

• Its structured around reciprocal agreements
  between Taipei and other major cities.
• Taipei selects artists and provides them with
  round-trip air tickets to the destination city.
• Their local accommodations and expenses for a
  stay are provided by the destination city.
• In return, Taipei provides the same hosting
  arrangements for artists visiting Taipei from the
  exchange cities.

• In 2001, the Taipei Art Village was set up to
  accommodate the resident artists.
• Utilizing Taipeis own unique and energetic
  character, this building has been transformed
  into Taiwans first international Artist Village.
  
• Hoping to develop into one of the leading sites
  for Arts and Culture by building a strong network
  locally and globally.

Intra-city Diplomacy

• There are more than 50 thousand foreign residents
  in Taipei.
• Taipei City Government fosters the ties between
  these international communities and local
  communities as well as provides a broad range of
  cross-cultural services for these communities.

• Taipei City hosts various international
  conferences and events to share experience with
  other countries.
• These activities in the areas of sports, culture,
  trade and technology made history in the city of
  Taipei.
• In 2003, Chinese Taipei Sports Association of the
  Deaf and the Taipei City Government won the bid
  for hosting the 21st Summer Deaflympics, Taipei,
