2- PRC04 Conclusion and what has happened since then
- Linear Collider RD TPC
- The PRC acknowledges the impressive work of the
TPC group as an international effort and
encourages a further globalization of the LC-TPC
effort. - Globalization complete other US groups, Asian
groups(China), other European groups, extensive
RD work continuing. - The PRC recognizes the importance to finish the
studies done in the first phase of the RD
(called demonstration phase in the report) and
the progress towards this goal during the last
years. It agrees that a next step should be the
design and construction of a second generation
(larger) series of prototypes. - Organization of Large Prototype _at_ Eudet facility
started - The PRC supports the group in its continuing need
for test facilities, e.g. the high field magnet
at DESY and elsewhere and adequate test beams of
electrons and hadrons, which will be required in
particular starting around 2006. - Will be provided by the Eudet facility
- The PRC recommends that DESY continues to
strongly support the group in order to allow an
involvement in the project at a significant
level. -
3LCTPC Remarks for closed session

only cover some examples. More examples are in - The written reportgtversion (with all plots) at

df, e.g., - Kek beam tests
- MWPC
- GEM
- Micromegas
- Resistive foil
- Other small chambers (e.g.Cornell/Purdue)
- Complete overview of design issues (Appendix), to
be addressed by LP -
4 RD Planning reminder
- 1) Demonstration phase
- Continue work with small prototypes on mapping
out parameter space, understanding resolution,
etc, to prove feasibility of an MPGD TPC. For
CMOS/Si-based ideas this will include a basic
proof-of-principle. - 2) Consolidation phase
- Build and operate the LP, large prototype, (Ø
75cm, drift 100cm), with EUDET infrastructure
as pedestal, to test manufacturing techniques
for MPGD endplates, fieldcage and electronics.
Design is starting---building and testing will
take another 3 years. - 3) Design phase
- After phase 2, the decision as to which endplate
technology to use for the LC TPC would be taken
and final design started.

equipment includes all non-staff costs -
consumables, travel, overhead. FTEs includes
academics, students and support which are
combined for this overview. Comments The TPC
groups within the Eudet consortium have approved
funding as indicated above this will cover 50
of the costs for the LP and LC-TPC programs. The
extra-Eudet TPC groups are of about equal
strength (manpower and resources) to those in
Eudet, as estimated from the report to the Desy
PRC in October 2004. The extra-Eudet TPC groups
will thus be requested to generate a matching
amount to that already approved for Eudet, as
indicated under additional support needed. The
extra-Eudet TPC groups will be applying
individually for support to carry out their parts
of the programs. The funding profile will not be
exactly flat, but until it is known better for
the extra-Eudet groups, the above can serve as a
working hypothesis.

14 LCTPC collaboration What do we need for the
enlarged collaboration and Phase (2)?
Suggestions being discussed (no decision yet)
-Extend steering to new countries
-Form some kind of collaboration board consisting
of group leaders -The collaboration board
decides how to organize itself and
-Elects a spokesperson by the end of
2006. -Write up a (loose) MOU for the LP work.
