The facts
  • More than 1 in 5 (300,000) people in N. I have a
    disability.
  • Its higher here than in the rest of the UK.
  • Only 13 of people with disabilities in N.I take
    the recommended level of exercise compared to 34
    of non- disabled people.
  • People with disabilities are four times as
    likely to be sedentary (55 compared to 13)

Ulster Councils role and vision

  • To introduce GAA to disability and Special Needs
    groups, increasing penetration rates
  • 2. To audit, generate and support new and
    existing structures
  • 3. Train staff/volunteers/ teachers in the
    delivery of proper coaching sessions

have equal opportunity to partake in Gaelic Games
to their full potential

    player in the road.
  • NB Down syndrome/ cerebal palsy players have a
    purple cone to indicate to them to stop/start
    sooner than the rest of group.

  • Dribble knockout
  • All with a ball keep a hold of your own while
    attempting to knock away others.
  • Keep ball inside your magic rainbow/semi circle.
  • Increase/decrease size of square
  • Allow the players to choose the size of ball they
    want (Bean bag, beach ball, sliotar, Go Games
    ball, football, tennis ball)

  • Rotate after 6.passes
  • Change to other side/foot
  • High catch

  • Players at side solo off foot or knee during
    active rest

December 1996, it has been unlawful for service
providers to treat disabled people less
favourably for a reason related to their
disability. October 1999, service providers have
had to make reasonable adjustments for disabled
people, such as providing extra help or making
changes to the way they provide their
services. October 2004 service providers have
had to make reasonable adjustments to the
physical features of their premises to overcome
physical barriers to access
